FIRST-EVER EXCHANGE VISIT BETWEEN AFRICAN AND EUROPEAN REGULATORY BODIES

From 14th  to 18th November 2016, a group of five senior managers from the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) went on a study tour to visit its equivalent agency in Ireland, the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA). The purpose of this study visit was for ZAMRA to collect information, exchange views, network and gain knowledge/expertise from a stringent and internationally recognised medicines regulatory agency on key issues such as Human and Veterinary Medicines Control Systems, Quality Management Systems, Information and Communication Technology systems as well as Cosmetics and Medical Devices Regulations. It was the first time ever that a regulatory public body from Africa visited its homologue on the European continent for such a knowledge exchange exercise. This activity was supported by the European Union under the Health Systems Strengthening Programme (18 million EUR) which aims inter alia at assisting ZAMRA to effectively execute its regulatory functions.
